From 9th to 14th of June, 2019,the 25th International Congress on Glass (ICG 2019) sponsored by American Ceramic Society was held in Boston, USA. More than 900 specialists and students from 45 countries attended the congress. Professor Shifeng Zhou from SMSE, SCUT won the V. Gottardi Award, which is presented to only one winner worldwide in every congress.. The award was set up by the American Ceramic Society in 1987 to honor and reward scientists who have made outstanding scientific and technological achievements in the field of glass. After the award ceremony, Professor Zhou made a report titled Multicomponent Photonic Glasses and Fibers.

Brief Introduction to the Winner:

 

Shifeng Zhou is a full professor at School of Materials Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology. Zhou’s primary research focus is on photonic glasses and glass-ceramics. He has, as the first or newsletter author, over 50 publications in international journals, including Adv. Mater., JACS, Adv. Funct. Mater. And Prog. Mater. Sci. His research results have been reported by American Ceramic Society, the Reuters and Today's Materials and selected as Important Achievements of Optics in China twice. He was elected as a member in the National Talents Program of Excellent Youth, New Century Program of the Ministry of Education and Excellent Youth of Guangdong Province. He is the recipient of the Motoharu Kurata Award of the Ceramic Society of Japan. He is a member of the TC7 committee: Crystallization & GC.
