讲座摘要:

Minimizing energy loss is a key aspect to transcend the current limitations on the performance of organic and perovskite photovoltaics (OPV & PVSC). Our recent study reveals that the fully-fused rigid molecular acceptors are not only intrinsically highly luminescent but also meets the criteria in achieving intrinsically radiative recombination within the blend, which is a key step in moving towards new OPV materials and selection criteria if they are to approach the theoretical efficiency limits. In addition to the development of OPV, composition and interface engineering have been explored to dramatically improve the efficiency and long-term operational stability of the PVSC. Moreover, a very innovative approach has also been developed to combine both efficient charge extraction and the ability to trap decomposed Pb-containing perovskites into one material to address the most challenging environmental contamination issue for the commercialization of PVSCs.

 This talk will be divided into three parts:

  1.  Advances in developing novel non-fullerene acceptors to achieve record-high certified efficiency (17.5%) with low photovoltage (Voc) loss;

  2.  Progress of achieving the highest efficiency (23.1%) in inverted perovskite solar cells (PVSCs) through smart engineering of the interfaces;  

  3.  Demonstration of the simultaneous achievement of high PCE (>22%), excellent operational stability (85°C at MPP for 1000h under 1 Sun illumination), and the ability to capture degraded Pb-containing by-products by employing 2D metal-organic frameworks (2D-MOF) as a charge extraction layer in PVSCs. 


嘉宾简介:

Professor Alex K-Y. Jen is the Provost and Chair Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science of the City University of Hong Kong. He is a distinguished researcher with more than 900 publications, 65,000 citations, and an H-index of 127. He is also a co-inventor for 63 patents and invention disclosures. His interdisciplinary research covers organic/hybrid functional materials and devices for photonics, energy, sensors, and nanomedicine.

 For his pioneering contributions in organic photonics and electronics, Professor Jen was elected as an Academician by both the European Academy of Sciences and the Washington State Academy of Sciences. He is also a Fellow of several prestigious professional societies including AAAS, MRS, ACS, PMSE, OSA, SPIE. He was named by the Times Higher Education (THE) as one of the “Top 10 university researchers in Perovskite Solar Cell Research” from 2014 to 2017. In addition, he was recognized by Thomson Reuters as one of the "World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds of 2015-16 and as a "Highly Cited researcher" in materials science from 2014-2020. He has also demonstrated strong capability in technology transfer, and was the founder of the Institute of Advanced Materials for Energy (i-AME) of the University of Washington.  


粤港澳光电磁功能材料联合实验室简介:

粤港澳光电磁功能材料联合实验室由华南理工大学牵头,香港科技大学、香港大学、香港城市大学、香港理工大学和澳门大学组建而成,于2019年10月获批建设,高松院士任实验室首任主任。实验室围绕“粤港澳大湾区”的战略部署,在有机发光材料、聚集诱导发光材料、有机光伏材料和磁分子材料等方面协同开展前瞻性基础研究和关键技术攻关。实验室研究实力雄厚,凝聚了包括中国科学院院士5人、欧洲科学院院士1人、国家自然科学基金杰出青年基金获得者8人、长江学者奖励计划特聘教授4人等一批高层次杰出人才。


材料科学前沿论坛简介:

为促进粤港澳地区光电磁功能材料领域的学术交流与合作,拓宽研究视野,把握前沿动态,联合实验室设立“材料科学前沿论坛”,和发光材料与器件国家重点实验室“发光明师讲堂”系列学术讲座合并举办。论坛邀请相关领域有影响力的学者,分享科学研究的进展、理念与心得。期望通过该论坛,加强粤港澳大湾区的学术交流合作,促进湾区繁荣发展。
