On October 22th of 2017, “Central-South Architectural Design Institute Cup”, the 11^th national university structural design competition, brought to a successful close with a four-day-long competition schedule. The civil engineering and transportation school of SCUT won the outstanding organization award.

In this year’s structural design competition, the competition organizer, considering the usage conditions of water resources in our country, chose the aqueduct bearing structure as the background of the design. They hoped that the participate students and university would explore the force analysis, optimal design and construction technique of aqueduct bearing structure through the designing and crafting of a structure model and the water delivery loading. The competition reformed in this year is the first time with a two-phase competition schedule. In the provincial part of the competition, 1182 teams with almost 6000 students at different provinces all over the country participated. Students of 108 teams from 107 universities finally chose for the national competition.

In the closing ceremony of the competition, Wu Bo, dean of the civil engineering and transportation school of SCUT, represented the organizing university of the 12^th national university structural design competition making a statement. Dean Wu expressed his gratitude for the trust of the competition committee and the participating university and thanked for the organizing experience from the previous competition organizers. He told that SCUT would try best to organize the national university structural design competition in 2018 and give a wonderful competition for the participating university.

In the closing ceremony, Dean Wu, representing SCUT, accepted the committee flag from the secretary general of the national university structural design competition committee. Then the preparation for the competition in 2018 was started.

It is reported that the national university structural design competition is one of the national university competitions that accepted by the ministry of education. It’s sponsored by the committee of the civil engineering major of the national institutions of higher learning, and it is the highest-level competition of the civil engineering major to cultivate the innovation, teamwork and practical ability of the university students. It is named as “Civil crown on the most brilliant pearl”.

By now, the SCUT has participated the all eleven national competitions, and won the first prize six times, second prize twice, third prize one time and the outstanding organization prize nine times.
