On February 20th, 2017, headed by Dr. WU Fan, the student representatives of Construction Management Society visited the University of Hong Kong for an academic communication for 5 days. During the visit, Prof. LingHin Li, the deputy dean of Faculty of Architecture in HKU, arranged the activities supportively. Under the theme of HKU-SCUT Union Workshop, the aim of this activity is to offer opportunities to SCUT students who major in Construction Management to fully communicate with the professors, graduate and undergraduate students from Faculty of Real Estate and Construction in HKU and broaden students’ horizon.

1. SCUT-HKU Construction Management Union Workshop
Construction Management Union Workshop is the theme of the academic communication. The students began to work on the workshop as soon as they arrived. As the beginning, SCUT students presented the achievements of Construction Management Workshop to teachers and students in HKU, and then received precious suggestions from professors and students in HKU. Then the students of SCUT and HKU were divided into three groups to work on different workshop projects. Within few days, they discussed the topics, found information, did field surveying and conducted analysis summary for the final presentation.
Through the efforts of all, the workshop presentation turned out to be a great success. SCUT students discovered meaningful topics and locate related information, and shown their logical analyzing ability and good command of English speaking skills, which received praise from teachers.

2. Site Visit and Field Study
Under the elaborate arrangement by Prof. Li, the students got the precious opportunity to visit the tallest building in Hong Kong, The International Commerce Center. When visiting ICC, the senior executive of Sun Hung Kai Properties introduced the construction process of ICC by delivering a speech ‘Vertical City’, in order to help students enhance understanding of the technologies and the management process of super high-rise building construction. After the speech, the project manager of Sun Hung Kai Properties led students to the top of the building and introduced building technologies of ICC and the characteristics of ICC construction management.

Later, arranged by Prof. Li, our students took an island-looping by double-decker bus to understand Hong Kong Island more deeply. And then under the guidance of professors from Faculty of Real Estate and Construction who specialize in city renewal and conservation of ancient buildings, the students had a view of the unique types of buildings and understand more about the development and construction characteristics of Hong Kong.

3. Academic Lectures by Masters
Arranged by Faculty of Architecture in HKU, SCUT students had the honor to attend two academic lectures of Planning and Property Rights Conference. The wonderful lectures brought advanced standpoints and achievements to our students and provided new ideas for the workshop.

4. HKU-SCUT Communication
Thank to Prof. Li’s thoughtful arrangement, SCUT students had a communication with HKU research students in the Dept. of real estate and construction. HKU students shared their experience and insights about studying at HKU, while SCUT students also express their concern about career planning and direction of study. Students of both offered their opinions and suggestions passionately.
