April 13th afternoon, outstanding young scholars forums of the South China University of Technology (the 12^th civil engineering and transportation sub-forums) were held in the transportation building. Dr. You Jikung, a senior engineer from the Norwegian Marine Engineering Design Sevan Company, and the assistant professor Yang Yuguang from Technische Universiteit Delft in the Netherlands, shared the latest research results with faculty members and students from civil engineering and transportation majors. More than 40 faculty members and students, from Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Civil Engineering and Transportation, attended the sub-forums.

You Jikung gave a lecture titled 'Application of ocean hydrodynamics in offshore platform design'. With recent program experience, he introduced some applications of ocean hydrodynamics in offshore platform design, such as previous floating concept selection, semi-submersible platform overall performance evaluation, mooring and riser system design. He also made an analysis of hydrodynamic performance. Yang Yuguang gave a report titled 'The evolution and application of concrete shear theory'. He introduced his research on concrete shear theory, the evolution of the European concrete shear specification and his work about safety assessment of existing concrete bridge structures.

They had intensive discussions with faculty members and students on the related topics. After the meeting, the two scholars visited the laboratories, and had a more in-depth academic discussion with related research teams (Editors: Mu He-Qing, Zheng Zhen-Jie).
