Department of Transportation Engineering

Department of Transportation Engineering was jointly established by South China University of Technology and Department of Transportation of Guangdong Province in 1995. The Department obtained the First-class Discipline Doctoral Degree in Transportation Engineering in 2010, which is the earliest first-class discipline doctoral program in South China. Then the First-class Discipline Postdoctoral Mobile Station was established in 2012. In the same year, the Department obtained the advantageous key discipline in Guangdong Province, forming a complete training system for undergraduate, master and doctoral students. Until now, the Department has cultivated a large number of technical backbones and industry elites in the field of transportation in China and enjoys a high reputation in South China.

The Department has a Traffic Engineering Teaching & Research Office and a Transportation Teaching & Research Office, and has 27 full-time teachers, including 8 professors, 13 associate professors, 16 doctoral supervisors, 24 master supervisors and 24 teachers with doctoral degrees. The Department has built several provincial and ministerial scientific research and teaching platform, such as National Intelligent Transportation Technology Training Network Guangzhou Center, Modern Traffic Engineering Technology Research Center of Guangdong University, Guangdong Intelligent Traffic Information and Control Engineering Technology Research Center, Modern Traffic Engineering Technology R & D Center in Guangzhou Institute of Modern Industrial Technology, Guangdong Provincial Transportation Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Guangdong Provincial Transportation Engineering Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center, and so on.

The Department is engaged in the research fields of traffic big data and road network operation, intelligent traffic control and management, vehicle-road cooperative control, traffic safety and traffic environment, public transportation planning and operation organization, traffic information collection and processing, traffic simulation and optimization, traffic monitoring technology, road toll system, expressway electromechanical facility design, urban public traffic planning, road traffic planning and management, comprehensive transportation, passenger transport system, highway operation management, and a number of representative innovative research results have been obtained in recent years. Through multi-level scientific research cooperation with local governments and enterprises, the Department has formed a green channel combining politics, production, learning, research and application, solving major scientific and technological problems in engineering practice.

The Department aims to provide cutting-edge scientific and technological guidance, common technical service guarantee and high-level innovative talent training for the sustainable development of Transportation Engineering in China. In undergraduate education, the Department constructs the transportation majors focus on building a transportation course platform to consolidate students’ foundation for major transportation disciplines, and to meet students' individualized, diversified, and interdisciplinary development needs. In graduate education, the Department intends to cultivate the talents working on intelligent transportation system, transportation system planning and management, management and analysis of traffic big data, and design and integration of traffic electrical and mechanical engineering.
