Vice President Prof. Qiu Xueqing is currently in charge of foreign affairs; exchange and cooperation with Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau; finance; campus infrastructure; and international education.
Prof. Qiu graduated from Tsinghua University in 1987 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He went on to study at SCUT, receiving a master’s degree in environmental chemical engineering (1990) and a doctorate in chemical engineering (1995). He was named Excellent New Teacher of Guangdong Province, Outstanding Backbone Teacher (awarded by the Ministry of Education), and Excellent Postdoctoral Administrative Staff of Guangdong Province.
Following his master’s studies, Prof. Qiu started working at SCUT and was awarded a professorship in May 2000. Since 1998, he has served as Vice Director and then Director of the SCUT Personnel Office. In 2007, he became Vice President of SCUT.
Engaged in teaching and research concerning efficient resource utilization and new extractive processes of industrial lignin, Prof. Qiu has chaired or is chairing a number of key national research projects, including those sponsored by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National Natural Science Foundation (Major Program), the “973 Program” (Major State Basic Research Development Program), and the “863 Program” (National High Technology Research and Development Program). He won second prize of the National Award for Technological Invention twice; first and second prize of the Provincial and Ministerial Technology Awards five times; and both the National Excellent Patent Award and Guangdong Provincial Golden Patent Award on two occasions. Prof. Qiu holds 47 Chinese Patents and two American Patents, has published over 280 SCI/EI papers, and over ten papers on university administration.
Prof. Qiu is also member of the 7th Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, member of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC), Deputy Director of the Specialized Committee of Fine Chemical Engineering, member of the 3rd Specialized Committee on Disciplinary Development and Major Setup under the Ministry of Education, and Vice President of the Institutional Research Council under the Higher Education Academy of China.
