10月27日、28日下午,香港浸会大学传播学系教授肖小穗莅临基地,举办了“浅析研究能力”和“学术研究与论文书写”两场学术讲座。讲座由基地主任安然教授主持,刘程教授以及基地研究员、硕博生参加了讲座。

在“浅析研究能力”讲座上,肖小穗教授为在座的师生阐述了什么是研究能力。他认为,研究能力是一种综合的能力,是后天培养的、综合判断行为的能力,包括抽象能力、辨识能力、洞识能力。接着,他又为大家具体讲解了抽象能力、辨识能力、洞识能力的形成。他说,抽象能力是意义概括的能力、意义拓展的能力、结构把握的能力。学者要具有抽象思维,试着用抽象语言表达出具象,从纷繁复杂的事情中拨云见日。肖小穗教授还指出,青年学者和学生在做学问时,要踏实、忌浮躁,多读书、勤思考,把握学术的内在结构逻辑。对于“辨识的能力”,肖教授认为,要把握好“互动、发展、多维”的基本取向。把问题想复杂、想出深度,是辩证能力强的表现,应该根据具体情况,做出具体分析,不应该简单地以好与坏、是与非来判断问题。他认为,洞识能力是研究能力中最为关键的,是基于自己判断的想象,展示意外的结果,是每个学者独具匠心的表现。

在“学术研究与论文书写”的讲座中,肖小穗教授指出,学术论文写作的周密规划、局部书写离不开五个环节。这五个环节分别是建构问题、提出问题、探讨文献、构筑理论、构思方法。学者在“建构问题”时要具有“大视野”,突出问题意识的建构、问题视野的建构,明白问题的严重性,解决问题的迫切性。而在“提出问题”时,要关注“小焦点”,具备社会问题意识与学术意识,清楚和恰当地提出问题。“探讨文献”时,要做好梳理源流、确认位置、提供范式、寻求突破等工作。“构筑理论”时,要把握好细微和广大的关系,在细微处致广大、在纵深处致广大。在“构思方法”中,他强调,论文写作是一项技术强、规范多的工作,思维方法要多样、严谨。要注意个案的特殊性、语境的特殊性。

两场讲座中,肖小穗教授逻辑清晰、有理有据、内容充实、循循善诱,引领广大师生感受学术的魅力。讲座后,肖教授与在座的师生进行积极的互动交流。他耐心、细心地解答了老师和同学们提出的问题,就如何做好学术规范、科研探索,和在座的师生进行了深入的交流,分享了自己的读书心得、研究体会。讲座后,安然教授为肖小穗教授颁发了基地研究员聘书。(图/文  郭雪娇  赵建楠)


背景介绍:
    肖小穗(萧小穗,香港用名),香港浸会大学传播学系教授,《传播与社会学刊》编辑。曾任浸会大学传理学院研究生课程委员会主任和媒体与传播研究中心副主任。1992年俄亥俄州州立大学传播与修辞学博士,1995年当选国际修辞史协会(International Society for the History of Rhetoric)首位亚裔理士。在海外访学期间,曾于1996年和2007年两度担任哈佛大学费正清研究中心客座研究员,另于1999年担任夏威夷东西方研究中心研究员。研究领域包括修辞学、文化批评和中国传播学。曾单独发表、与他人合著、和合编五部学术著作和三本学刊专辑,另发表中英文学术论文四十余篇。


    On october 27th and 28th in the afternoon, professor of “School of Communication” of Hong Kong Baptist University Mr. Xiao Xiao Sui hold two seminars about “Analyse of Reserach Ability”and “ Academic Research and Writing”. Seminar conducted by prof. An Ran-head of the research center, Prof Liu Cheng, members of research center and phD students attended to the seminars.

       At the “Analyse of Reserach Ability” seminar, Professor Xiao talked about what does research ability mean . To his mind, research ability is a kind of systematic-comprehensive ability that includes the ability to determine the behavior,  abstracting, identification and insightability, itcan be nurtured.Then he gave a detailed explanation for the abstracting , identification and insightabilities.He said that abstracting ability is the ability of summarizing of general meaning, the ability of expanding the meaning , the ability to grasp the main structure.Scholars should have abstract thinking, and try to use the abstract language expresses the representational, from the complicated things in a dark day seem bright.Professor XiaoXiaoSui also pointed out that the young scholars and studentsshould be steadfast, avoid fickleness, read more, think much, and hold theinner structure of academiclogic when do researchFor the ability of identification, prof.Xiao thinks it is necessary to grasp the basic orientation of the interaction, development, multidimensional. The problem should be considered as a complex andprofoundproblem,its the expression of the dialectical ability.A specific analysis should be made based on specific circumstances, should not simply tojudgeby good or bad, yes or no. He believes thatinsightability is the most important ability among the research abilities, which is an original performance and an unexpected result of each scholar based on  their own imagination.

        In academic “ Academic Research and Writing” lecture, Prof. Xiao pointed out that the careful planning of academic paper writing andpartial writing can not be separated from the five links.These five aspects, respectively are: constructing the problem, raising  a research  question, deep literature review, building a theory, plotting the research method

During the constructing the problem scholars should posses “big view” in highlighting the problem, should realize the seriousness of the problem, the urgency of solving the problem. But during the raising a research question stage,  scholars should pay attention to the small details, linked with social problems and academic awareness , clearly and appropriately raise the question. During the “explore the  literature review stage, should properly comb the source , determine own position, provide a paradigm, look for breakthrough the research problem.At the theory buildingstage the relationship between the small and big,from small to big, and form the deep to big.When explained theconception method stage, Prof. Xiao emphasized that the academic paper writing requires strong technical ability, standardized work, thinking methods should be diverse and rigorous. An especial attention should be paid to particularity of the case, and context.

       During above mentioned two lectures, Prof. Xiao’s logically reasoned, informative speech, by the teachers and students attended the lectures. After the lecture, Prof. Xiao and the teachers and students conducted a positive interactive communication. He patiently and carefully answered the teacher and the students’questions, about the academic standards of scientific research and sharedown experience with all of the teachers and students.After the lecture, Prof.An Ran issued the hire book of researcherof Base of Intercultural Communication and Public Diplomacto Professor Xiao Xiao Sui.(Figure/ArticleGuo Xuejiao, Zhao Jiannan)


Introduction

Mr. Xiao Xiao Sui , Professor of Department of Communicationof Hong Kong Baptist University, editooCommunication and Society JournalA former director of Graduate School Curriculum Committee of Hong Kong Baptist University   and a deputy director of the  Media and Communication Research CenterIn 1992, got a Phat Ohio State University in the field of Communication and History of Rhetoric , 1995 elected (International Society for the History of Rhetoric) the first Asian leoch, served as a visiting fellow at the Fei Zheng Qing Research Center of Harvard University in 1996 and in 2007 and was a researcher of the "East West" Research center in Hawai in 1999. Research areas include rhetoric, cultural criticism and Chinese communication studies. He had  published five academic books and authored and edited three books and published more than forty papers in english chinese languages.
