SCUT entered the global top 100

On April 30th, the Nature Research released the Nature Index 2020 Annual Tables, which said that South China University of Technology (SCUT) ranked 93rd among the global academic institutions. This is the first time that SCUT is included in the top 100 of the list.

The Nature Index tracks the scientific research results of the institutions and countries published in 82 prestigious scientific journals in 2019Judging from the ranking of four subject areas, SCUT has performed well in chemistry and physics. The number of articles published in high-level journals reached 193 and 95 respectively, ranking 42nd and 81st among the global academic institutions. The contribution rate of physical sciences even increased by 19.2% year-on-year.

The Nature Index 2020 Annual Tables added a Rising Stars ranking, which mainly shows the institution’s or country’s growth of the natural index from 2015 to 2019. The contribution share of SCUT has increased by 88%, ranking 18th among the global academic institutions, of which the physics, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences ranked 12th, 28th and 68th respectively in the world. These great achievements fully shows that in the past five years, under the strong promotion of the Double-First Class overall strategy, SCUT has significantly improved its ability to produce high-quality scientific research results in the field of natural science and has gained greater international academic influence.

It is reported that the Nature Index is a database of author affiliations and institutional relationships. The index tracks contributions to research articles published in 82 high-quality natural science journals, chosen by an independent group of researchers.
