SCUT works with MOE & regional authorities on new international campus

The agreement of building SCUT’s Guangzhou International Campus was signed in Beijing on March 15, 2017 


A new international campus of SCUT has been confirmed to be built in Guangzhou to advance high-level education and scientific research.

The Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE), the Guangdong Provincial Government, the Guangzhou Municipal Government, and SCUT will be working together to facilitate the ambitious plan.

On March 15 in Beijing, witnessed Hu Chunhua, CPC Politburo Member and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Chen Baosheng, Minister of Education, Ma Xingrui, Guangdong’s Governor, and Wen Guohui, Guangzhou’s Mayor, an agreement of carrying out the plan was signed up by delegates of the above four parties.

SCUT's Guangzhou International Campus, by focusing on emerging and multidisciplinary fields such as high-end equipment manufacturing, quantum communication, brain science, and artificial intelligence, will offer tremendous educational opportunities to talented youngsters, as well as conduct research on frontier sciences and promote technology transfer.

The demonstration campus will be managed based on SCUT’s collaboration with a number of world-class overseas universities. The aim is to serve major needs of the country, and offer solid supports to the innovation-driven development strategy of Guangdong province and Guangzhou.

Sited in the Panyu District of Guangzhou, the new campus will be located close to the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center. It will cover an area of 1,650 mus (110 hectares), which will receive an estimated investment of over 10 billion yuan.

The blueprint includes 10 new schools that will be hosting 3,000 undergraduate students and 9,000 graduate students after full installation of the current plan, which seeks to build an entire student training system to provide integrated Bachelor's/Master's/PhD programs.

President Wang Yingjun, on behalf of SCUT, signed the deal in the capital city. Zhang Xichun, Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee, Zhu Min and Dang Zhi, SCUT's Vice Presidents, and Tao Shaojing, Standing Member of the CPC SCUT Committee, were also present on the ceremony.
