SCUT will fully collaborate with the University of Bristol in the UK to accelerate the progress of building the Guangzhou International Campus, according to a cooperation agreement that was signed when leaders and academics from the University of Bristol made a trip to SCUT on April 11.

Among the Bristol delegation included its President and Vice Chancellor Hugh Brady, and Pro Vice Chancellor Eric Lithander, who were received by Secretary of the CPC SCUT Committee Zhang Xichun and SCUT's Vice President Zhu Min at the Liwu Building of Science and Technology.

SCUT, working together with the Chinese Ministry of Education and regional authorities,is building an international campus in Guangzhou to advance high-level education and scientific research. After the agreement was reached in Beijing this March, SCUT is now on its way of starting up this new campus, taking the University of Bristol as a vital partner in the blueprint.

The association between the two institutions will be built upon their mutual academic strengths on frontier sciences, while the sister-city relations between Bristol and Guangzhou will be providing a solid foundation to the international partnership.

During the meeting with the Bristol delegation, Secretary Zhang Xichun introduced SCUT’s history and academic strong points to the guests. The delegates were impressed by the rate of SCUT’s scientific progress and the favorable conditions created by the new campus program, and looked forward to forging stronger links with SCUT on student programs and scientific research.

The University of Bristol, according to President Hugh Brady, will be working on a proposal of further cooperation soon after the meeting.

Founded in 1876, the University of Bristol is a red brick university and a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive British universities. It was ranked 41st by the QS World University Rankings 2016/17, and has been associated with 13 Nobel laureates throughout its history.
