Prof. Xinan Zeng, Prof. Qiang Huang, A/Prof. Xinbo Guo from School of Food Science and Engineering, SCUT and A/Prof. Hongmei Hu from School of Physical Education, SCUT form a SCUT delegation and had a 6-day exchange visit to Melbourne, Australia on 19th August 2018. They visited four universities including the University of Melbourne, Monash University, La Trobe University and Deakin University, and two subordinate research institutes of Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, CSIRO. They also had a conversation with the company Australian Education City discussed about the possibility of cooperation.

Visit in Deakin University, discussion about discipline construction of “sport nutrition”
During the visit in the University of Melbourne, Prof. Muthupandian Ashokkumar from School of Chemistry discussed the applications of new technologies, new opportunities and challenges in food and agriculture with our representatives and look ahead of the cooperation of scientific research and teaching and exchange programs in food, sports and other area. During the visit in Monash University, Prof. Cordelia Selomulya from School of Chemical Engineering introduced their recent research cooperation program amongst Australia-China Daily Product Joint Research Center and COFCO and Mengniu. He also showed the delegation a tour around the laboratory of Australia-China Daily Product Joint Research Center. Both sides were looking forward to further communication and cooperation in food processing and engineering. During the visit in La Trobe University, Alison Angleton, director of International Department and Tony Bacic, director of Agricultural Food Research Center showed their Agricultural Molecular Biology Center. During the visit in Deakin University, our representatives had a discussion with Wei Shen, vice principal of Deakin University, and Jin Sun, vice director of international department, Prof. David Austin, Izabela Sulek and Lin Zhang. Both sides discussed the direction of research about sports nutrition and food health, as well as problems about research and teaching collaboration, student exchange programs and so on.
Visit CSIRO Food Innovation Center Visit CSIRO Centre for Additive Innovation
CSIRO is located at two different research institutions which are Food Innovation Center and Center for Additive Innovation. CSIRO has a leading position in research of milk production and investigation of modern food manufacture equipment. The director of CSIRO Food Innovation Centre Dr. Roman Buckow introduced the laboratory and semi-works plant of the center. The main research directions of Centre for Additive Innovation are new material innovation and 3D printing technology. The director of CSIRO Centre for Additive Innovation Dr. Shen introduced their research progress in 3D printing and showed varies metal model made by 3D printing. Both two parties wanted to build a long-term research cooperation with each other in the future.

SCUT delegation was also invited by Australian Education City to visit the Melbourne International Education Technology Innovation Park and communicated with their executive president Mr. Ziyi Zeng, education senior consultant Prof. Ian Young AO (chairman of Group of Eight, Australia). It would extend the international popularity, absorb and train outstanding international students and accelerate the course of internationalization of SCUT.
