The 1st international Lipid Science and Biotechnology Symposium (2017) was held in the Hoder International Hotel, Guangzhou, China from 28th to 29th of April. The conference was host by the School of Food Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology and Guangdong Research Center of Lipid Science and Applied Engineering Technology. And the Symposium brought more than 100 specialist and researchers from the United States, Europe, Japan, Australia, Malaysia, Macao and mainland China universities and research institutions together, to discuss the frontier scientific issues in the field of lipid science and related biotechnology. Ms. Ma Weihua, director of science and Technology Divison of South China University of Technology (SCUT) attended the opening ceremony and delivered an opening speech; Professor Fu Xiong, Dean of the School of Food Science and Engineering, SCUT and Ms. Ma Ning, from International office of SCUT attended the opening ceremony.
Ms. Ma Weihua introduced the development of South China University of Technology in recent years, as well as the importance of food science, especially Lipid Science and biotechnology for the University. She wished the collaboration between SCUT and other research institutions from domestic and overseas would be enhanced in the future though the Symposium.
The Symposium was chaired by Professor Wang Yonghua, Vice Dean of the School of Food Science and Engineering, SCUT and Professor Yin Huiyong, from Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Three sessions such as Metabolism and Nutrition of Lipids & Lipidomics, New Resources of Fats and Oil, and Enzymes and Application in Fat and Oil Industry was disused. Fourteen key speakers reported their latest research to the audiences.The participants of the conference discussed with the speakers warmly.
On the second day, participants of the conference went to visit the related Company. After the meeting, all participants think this a very successful Symposium. They said it was an absolutely fantastic conference and they got delightful experience. Especially, the quality of the speeches was praised highly. （by Pengzhan Liu)
