In order to celebrate the 37th Teachers’ Day in China, the School of Environment and Energy held a symposium on 2021 Teachers’ Day symposium on the theme of continuing the centenary founding aspiration and taking on the mission of educating people in Conference Room 102 of the Environment Building on September 10th. Members of the leading group of the school and 20 teacher representatives attended the symposium.

On behalf of the school Party committee, Chen Hangyu, Secretary of the school Party committee, extended holiday greetings to the participating teacher representatives and expressed heartfelt thanks to the teachers who have contributed to the development of the school. He reviewed the main achievements made by the school in Party construction, education and teaching, curriculum ideological and political education, talent training, scientific research and social services in the past year with the concerted efforts of the party and government and all teachers and students. He pointed out that teachers work in the front line of teaching, scientific research and education in universities, and shoulder the important tasks of spreading knowledge, ideas, truth, and shaping soul, life and new people. All teachers should thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping’s thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, and strengthen the learning education of four histories, especially the spirit of 71 important speech so as to carry forward the spirit of great Party building and effectively and shoulder the glorious mission for educating people and cultivating talents for China. The school is also committed to solving the urgent problems of teachers and students, constantly strengthening the sense of acquisition, happiness and achievement of teaching staff, and hoping to listen to the opinions and suggestions of all delegates in this room on the development of the school.

Symposium on Teachers' Day

At the meeting, the mainstay of the school, representatives of three generations of teachers spoke respectively. Professor Hu Yongyou reviewed his decades of teaching career and expressed his gratitude to the school. Though approaching retirement, he still hopes to contribute to the school. Professor Liu Jiang expressed his strong sense of happiness as a SCUT’s teacher. In this common but extraordinary post, he tried his best to do his work and set an example for the young teachers. Yin Hua, Wei Chaohai, Wang Xiaojun, Shi Zhenqing, Li Ping, Lu Guining, Qiu Yongcai and other teachers also shared their feelings enthusiastically, around the topics of teachers' ethics and discipline construction in combination with their own teaching experience, expressed their deep affection to schools and students and their profound thoughts on education and teaching reform, and expressed the aspiration to work together for discipline development and constantly deepen discipline construction. Youth teachers representative Zhao Bote told the story of his professional growth, expressed gratitude to the school and university for their concern for the growth of youth teachers, and their in-depth thinking on how to be a good teacher. They also shared suggestions in terms of talent training, teaching staff and scientific research, and unanimously expressed that they would improve their education and teaching ability in their future work, stay true to their original aspiration, forge ahead and take responsibility, strive to become a good teacher of Four Haves and shoulder the sacred mission of teaching and educating people.

Teacher representatives delivered speeches

After listening carefully to the speeches delivered by the teacher representatives, Dean Ye Daiqi thanked everyone for their long-term and conscientious working attitude and great contributions. He pointed out that holding this symposium and listening to teachers' expectations and aspirations for the development of the school is of great significance for the school to collect opinions and formulate policies. He stressed that the development of the school is inseparable from everyone's hard work. At present, the school is in a critical period in the  first-class discipline construction. The school will carefully sort out and summarize the valuable suggestions put forward by everyone, so as to create a better learning, working and living environment for teachers and students. Finally, he put forward three hopes for the teachers: first, we should consciously stress politics, enhance learning ability, strengthen the sense of mission of developing morality and cultivating people, form good teachers' ethics and style, and truly establish ourselves by virtue, teach with morality and devote ourselves to educating people; second, we should consciously stress responsibility, always combine personal development with the state and university, actively innovate educational philosophy and methods, and improve the ability of teaching and educating people; third, we should consciously emphasize the original aspiration and mission of dedication, continue to educate people, take the responsibility to shoulder the important task of discipline development of the school, and promote the cause of the school.
