    On 20th September 2018, the launching conference of key project "Research on the technology and management system of ozone pollution prevention and control in China" of National Key R&D Program of China "Research on the causes and control technology of air pollution" led by South China University of Technology (SCUT) was successfully held in Guangzhou. More than fifty people attended the conference including Wu Yechun, the vice-president of SCUT, Wang Lei, the director of Office of Resources and Environment, 21 Century Agenda Management Center in China, Chen Sheng, the director of Department of Scientific and Technical Standards, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, academicianZhang Yuanhang, Peking University, Jiang Xinghua, the vice-director of Office of Science and Technology,SCUT and other relevant leaders, project consultants and project team members.

Address by Vice-President Wu Yechun

    Vice President Wu Yechun first extended a warm welcome on behalf of SCUT to the leaders and experts attending the meeting.He introduced the achievements in scientific research and discipline construction of SCUT in recent years.VicePresident Wu said that for a long time, SCUThas insisted on scientific research facing the major strategic needs of the country, undertaking major National R&D Programs and promoting national and local development. He also said as the lead unit of this project, SCUT had the responsibility and obligation to coordinate and organize other participants and successfully accomplish the project together.

    Director Wang Lei pointed out that the project is one of the most important atmospheric projects. As the lead unit, SCUT should coordinate the allocation of resources and work with the project participants to promote the completion of the project. At the same time, he emphasized that scientific research projects should take into account both R&D and practical application of technology, and serve the government management.

    Director Chen Sheng expressed that the ozone pollution problem in China is serious and the overall situation is deteriorating. SCUT undertook the project to study the technology and management system of ozone pollution prevention and control in China, which is of great responsibility and significance.   

    Professor Ye Daiqi, the project leader, introduced the general situation, overall objectives and technical route of the project.  Principals of each task stated the goal of research in the sub-project and present achievements in detail.Experts among the attendees communicated and discussed profoundly about the implementation plan of the project, the progress and achievements, and the attainment of the performance evaluation index. Experts pointed out that the project team gathered talents in relevant fields of the country, and the research and development of the project will play an important role in solving the current ozone pollution control problem in China.Experts have put forward in-depth concrete opinions and suggestions for the implementation of the project, providing important guidance for the smooth implementation of the project.
