John. C. Crittenden- the academician of Georgia Institute of Technology and Menachem Elimelech- the academician of Yale University visited our school and give an academic report

From June 3rd to 4th, Doctor John. C. Crittenden- the academician of American Academy of Engineering, Chinese Academy of Engineering and Georgia Institute of Technology and Doctor Menachem Elimelech- the academician of American Academy of Engineering, Chinese Academy of Engineering and Yale University were invited to visit our school, with Doctor Li Duo- the academician of Georgia Institute of Technology and Kang Jincheng- previous director of the International Cooperation Bureau of Chinese Academy of Engineering. In the meantime, Zhang Xichun- the secretary of the Party committee, Vice-president Yu Qijun and Vice-president Dang Zhi meet those two academicians, with Wu Shuxiong- the director of the Personnel Office, Wang Nianqing- the director of International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Wu Zhaosheng- the director of International Affairs Office in Guangzhou International Campus, Ye Daiqi- the dean of School of Environment and Energy Chen Hangyu- the secretary of the Party committee and some other teachers. They welcomed to those two academicians’ coming and were grateful for their support and help to the contribution of Guangzhou International Campus, moreover, they suggested that they can cooperate on the contribution of Institute of Environment and Energy in Guangzhou International Campus, the introduction of personnel and the culture of students.  

   On the afternoon of June 3rd, those two academicians give a wonderful academic report in B4-215 and the host is Doctor Ye Daiqi.

   The title of Doctor John. C. Crittenden’s report is Gigatechnology: Developing Sustainable Urban Infrastructure to Solve Gigaton Problems. He reduces the consumption of energy and reuses water when contributing urban infrastructure, improves ecological environment and provides thinking and example to energy-saving, emission-reduction, green ecology and sustainable development.

   The title of Doctor Menachem Elimelech’s report is Nor Any Drop to Drink: The Global Challenge for Water Supply. He not only points out the situation of global water resources and the lack of water around the world, but also provides challenges of possessing enough water to many zones in the world and solution to increase water supply through the desalination of sea water and reusing of waste water.

   In the end, those two academicians had a deep talk with teachers and students and answered their questions patiently. This talk broadens many teachers’ and students’ scientific horizons and they gain a lot of inspiration and ideas.
