 The Forum of Energy Material Science Was Held By The Team of Energy Storage And Conversion.

 On January 16th, 2018, the Team of Energy Storage And Conversion of School of Environment and Energy held a large academic conference titled “The Forum of Energy Material Science” in the meeting room B5-207 in the south campus of SCUT. Well-known experts in the realm of energy material both from home and abroad were invited to this forum to have an academic exchange. Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering Professor Zhang Xueliang, Associate Professor Bilge Yildiz from department of Material Science and Engineering of MIT, Associate Professor Francesco Ciucci from School of Engineering of HKUST, Georgia Institute of Technology, the leader of the innovation team of energy storage and conversion of SCUT, Associate Professor Yifei Mo from Department of Material Science and Engineering of University of Maryland, College Park, Professor Wang Shuangyin from College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hunan University have made academic reports during the forum.

 The forum was host by Professor Liu Jiang. Besides, Professor Yang Chenghao, Professor Jiang Zhongjie, Professor Chenyan, Associate Professor Huang Jianlin, Associate Professor Cheng Shuang, Professor Xiong Xunhui and postgraduates from our team as well as those who are interested in this field attended the conference. There was not a single vacancy at the scene and was in a strong academic atmosphere.

 First of all, Professor Liu Jiang expressed a warm welcome to the experts who came to give academic reports on behalf of all the teachers and students. He also hoped that this forum could improve the scientific research level of the team and help to broaden the horizon of all the teachers and students. Later, every expert gave their brilliant academic report on their own research fields.

 Professor Zhang Xueliang, the chief scientist of the realm of nanometer energy materials of University of Western Ontario gave the first academic report, which was titled ‘Surface and Interface Design for Energy Storage’. This report mainly introduced the application of nanometer energy materials in energy storage and conversion. He also stated that the future development direction of power battery.

 Then tenured Associate Professor of the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering and the Department of Material Science and Engineering of MIT Bilge Yildiz delivered his academic report.The report titled with ‘Beyond Electrostatic Effects at Oxide hetero-interfaces: Electrochemical Phase Change, Strong Electric Fields, and Elastic Strain’ mostly introduced the effect of elastic strain, displacement, temperature and partial pressure of oxygen on ion/electron mixture materials.

 Next, Francesco Ciucci, the professor of school of engineeringof HKUST, made his academic report. The name of this report is ‘BaFeO3-δ-based Materials for Intermediate-Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and beyond’. The theme of this report is to introduce the application of BFO materials on fuel cell and high temperature solid oxide fuel cell.


After that, Associate Professor Yifei Mo of Department of Material Science and Engineering of University of Maryland, College Park delivered his academic report. This report, whose title was ‘Computational Accelerated Design of Materials and Interfaces for All-solid-state Li-ion Batteries’ mainly introduced material design of all solid state lithium ion battery.

 The last academic report was made by Professor Wang Shuangyin from College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hunan University. The title of the report was ‘Electrocatalyst Defect Chemistry’, which mainly introduced the research of catalyst surface regulation in Professor Zhang’s research group in recent years, especially the progress on defect chemistry.

 On the site, experts made wonderful academic reports and all the teachers and students listened to reports carefully at the same time. Besides, students carried on an academic discussion on those reports with experts. Finally, Professor Liu Jiang made a comment and conclusion to this forum. The forum has brought a lot to the teachers and students present.
