On March 24th, The Forum of Excellent Young Scholars At Home and Abroad of SCUT, sub-forum of Environment and Energy held successfully in B4-308 at the SouthCampus. Dr. Chen Changer, a researcher at the StockholmUniversity in Sweden, was invited to the forum and made an academic report.Dean of school, related professional teachers and students attended the forum.

Dr. Chen made an academic report entitled A passive water sampler and its applications. The report mainly included two parts. Firstly, he introduced his main research contentin doctoral period, including the research and development of DGT-based passive water sampler fororganic pollutants, the proof of availability of newly developed passive samplersby comparing with traditional samplers. Dr. Chen furtherexploredmechanism of this sampler targeting onthe environmental behavior of organic pollutants and antibiotics, includingadsorption and desorption in soil and removeinsewage treatment, etc. And then he introduced the application prospect of this sampling technology. Secondly, Dr. Chen introduced the main work of his postdoctoral stage. As for the early postdoctoral stage, he described the role of this sampling technique in environmental standards such as the EU Water Directive. At the latter stage, he mainly studiedrisk assessment of chemicals, concentrated onthe assessment of the bioaccumulation of organic mixtures, and developed a method todeterminethe bioconcentrationfactor (BCF)for fish.

A strong academic atmosphere filled with the whole sub-forum. The teachers and students discussedwith the reporter on their interesteddirection and topics actively.Through this platform, we learntthe latest research results and research trends in relatedfield through this report.

It is reported that The Forum of Excellent Young Scholars At Home and Abroad of SCUT aims to invite young excellent scholars at home and abroad, to discuss and exchange opinions around the frontier and hotspot of international scientific research, as well asthe key technical issues of industry. And to inspire each other, broaden horizons, and promote international exchanges and cooperation by this opportunity.

Introduction to the speaker:

ChenChangerobtained his PhD degree fromLancasterUniversity, UK. He is a postdoctoral researcher in Lancaster University and StockholmUniversity. He has committed to theresearch ofdevelopment and application of passive samplers for polar organic contaminants, and the environmental behavior of Pharmaceutical and Personal Care Products(PPCPs), the removal of pollutants in sewage treatment plants and other related researches. Up to now,he published 7 relevant articles. His main job is to develop organic DGT, greatly expanding the DGT applications (from inorganic to organic),explore its application in the study of environmental behavior of polar organic pollutants as an in situ sampling technique combined with DIFS model.Currently, he is engaged in the assessment of the persistence of organic matter, bioconcentration(fish), and developing a bioaccumulation assessment method for natural mixtures.

As a member of the Organizing Committee of the DGT International Conference in 2013, he participated in more than 10 International Conferences, reportedfor 8 times and briefing for 7 times. He currentlyserves as an editor of an open source journals, Journal of Environment and Health Science (omega publisher) ,and areviewer of multiple journals, such as Environmental Science & Technology, Environmental Pollution, Science of the Total Environment, Talanta, Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, Chemosphere, Environmental Science and Pollution Research and so on. And he also received Excellent Reviewers of the Chemosphere Journal in 2016. He wonthe 2009 National CSC Scholarship. He wonthe outstanding undergraduate thesis of Northwest University of Agriculture and Forestry in 2006.
