Prof. Tommy W. S. Chow (周偉誠)
Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering
City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China
Abstract: McCulloch and Pitts in 1943 derived the first mathematical model for human brain neuron. Since then neural computing has undergone different ups and downs. It was only until the late nineties that the conceptual and engineering breakthrough on Deep Learning by Bengio, Hinton, and LeCun has reshaped the machine learning and AI technologies completely. In 2018 ACM named Bengio, Hinton, and LeCun the recipients of ACM Turing award. Machine learning and AI is no longer a research topic restricted in laboratory and proposals. It is transforming every walk of human life from science and engineering to business. This talk will brief the evolution of neural network and machine learning technologies along the timeline.
