报告摘要:

Technological advancements in flexible and stretchable electronics based on inorganic semiconductor materials have been rapidly increasing ever since the introduction of unconventional techniques to transfer flexible thin film format materials and components on foreign substrates. The new techniques have opened new opportunities for a myriad number of fields that could not have been possible with conventional rigid electronic devices. Such techniques have given rise to advancements in applications ranging from wearable and implantable electronics for clinical uses to biodegradable electronics for environmentally safe, consumer electronics. Nevertheless, while it is clear that future electronics may heavily rely on wireless communication capabilities, this unique and desirable feature is still in its early stages for (named as “fast”) flexible and stretchable electronics due to difficulties in finding reliable manufacturing and designing techniques for radio frequency (RF) electronics, which are the essential components that enable long distance wireless information and energy transfer. In this talk, I will present critical individual components that are required to form the fast flexible and stretchable electronics. Mainly, I will focus on the active devices and then the passive devices that are suitable for such purposes and discuss the suitable materials and design considerations that must be satisfied in order to form various functional circuits that operate in the very high frequency regime.

  

报告人简介:

Zhenqiang (Jack) Ma received his B.S. degree in applied physics and B.E. degree in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China in 1991. He received his M.S. degree in nuclear science and M.S.E. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1997, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2001. From 2001-2002, he was a member of the R&D team at Conexant Systems and later its spin-off, Jazz Semiconductor (now TowerJazz), in Newport Beach, CA. In 2002, he left Jazz to join the faculty of University of Wisconsin–Madison as an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is now a Lynn H. Matthias Professor in Engineering and a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor with affiliated appointments in four other departments and institutes in engineering and medical schools. His current interdisciplinary research covers electrical engineering, materials science and engineering, biomedical engineering, energy, health, and engineering physics. He is an author or a co-author of over 470 peer-reviewed technical papers and book chapters related to his research and holds over 70 US, EU, WO and CH patents. His research received worldwide media coverage. He is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) bestowed by former US president George W. Bush. He serves on the editorial boards, as an editor and reviewer of 100 international journals and has been awarded 48 federal grants as PI or co-PI of over 56 million US dollars. He is a fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), American Physical Society (APS), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Optical Society of America (OSA), and a fellow of National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
