SEC make joint efforts with Fin-Tech HSBC to train future talents

The SCUT-HSBC FinTech Talent Program Kick-off was held on Friday by SCUT and HSBC Technology China. The three-year cooperation aims to train future leading talents and domain experts equipped with both financial and sci-tech knowledge, which will contribute to the development of fintech in Guangdong-HK-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Tao Shaojing, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee in SCUT, Frank Tong, Global Director of Innovative Technology and Strategic Investment of HSBC, Yang Weikai, COO of HSBC Technology China, and Ma Guodong, Director of Business Finance & IT of HSBC Technology China attended the event.

“Fin-tech” acts as an important engine to promote modern economic system in Guangdong-HK-Macao Greater Bay Area. Tao pointed out that SCUT, as a Category-A University of “Double World Class” project, will be responsible and play an active role in sci-tech field. SCUT should develop itself as a world-class university, and also serve innovative development in Guangdong and China as a whole, building the Greater Bay Area as an international center of sci-tech innovation and advanced manufacturing industry. SCUT now has three provincial-level scientific research institutes, including the Research Center of Financial Engineering, listed in Universal Top 100 in China in 2017, and Research Center of Financial Engineering for Supply Chain in Guangdong. Tao also highlighted that the school will cultivate multi-disciplinary talents through relations with Fortune 500 companies, and will offer financial support to the Greater Bay Area through closer cooperation between the school and enterprise.

“Investing in future business is a very important part of HSBC's strategy, especially with rapid development of science and technology. With our global network, HSBC enjoys unique advantages to provide young IT talents with career opportunities in fintech.” Frank Tong said at the ceremony.

I will treasure this valuable opportunity for self-enhancement, promote myself in all respects and become a true multi-disciplinary talent. Yuan Haoxuan spoke on behalf of the students in the Program. And then, the related representative of HSBC Technology China made successful case studies about fin-tech prospects and career development in HSBC, and also communicated with the students.

From 2018 to 2020, HSBC FinTech Talent Program will recruit 30 sophomores each year through individual application and expert selection. Selected students will enter the special course in the next year, learning basic IT and finance. In addition, experts of fintech from HSBC will be invited to teach students a series of special advanced courses, including blockchain, big data, machine learning, software architecture, software development and project management, cloud computing and enterprise innovation. In the senior year, students will further their studies as  interns and practice in HSBC Technology China. After the internship, they will have the opportunity to join HSBC and start their career in fintech. Based on the successful cooperation with SCUT, HSBC Technology China will introduce this Program to more universities in China.
