SCUT is looking forward to extending partnerships with several prestigious universities in New Zealand, Australia, and Singapore, after a delegation led by Zhang Xichun, Secretary of CPC SCUT Committee, travelled to these countries earlier this month and produced fruitful results in developing cooperative programs.

From June 5 to 14, the delegation paid visits to the University of Auckland, the University of New South Wales, the University of Western Australia, Curtin University, and the Nanyang Technological University.

During the meeting with Jennifer Dixon, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Auckland in New Zealand, a consensus was reached between the two universities to extend partnerships in scientific research, Master’s-PhD joint training programs, and faculty exchanges, and a memorandum of academic cooperation was signed between UA’s Faculty of Science and SCUT’s South China Institute of Soft Matter Science and Technology.

Then in Australia, the delegation held sessions with representatives from the University of New South Wales, the University of Western Australia, and Curtin University on strengthening collaboration on building the Guangzhou International Campus, as well as developing student exchange and joint-training programs.

Intensive cooperation with these universities will be conducted in areas including materials science, biology, computer science, intelligent engineering, new energy, and ocean engineering.

Zhang Xichun, together with Dawn Freshwater, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Western Australia, unveiled the plaque for the Sino-Australia College, which is a joint initiative launched by SCUT and UWA, while the two universities also reached a consensus on building the School of Ocean Science and Engineering at SCUT’s Guangzhou International Campus.

At Curtin University, a memorandum of cooperation and an agreement of sharing overseas course credits were signed by Zhang Xichun and Deborah Terry, Curtin’s Vice-Chancellor.

During the stay at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the delegation paid visits to laboratories at its School of Computer Science and Engineering and School of Materials Science and Engineering, and had thorough discussions with Timothy White, NTU’s Associate Vice President, on advancing cooperation and working together on the Sino-Singapore Joint Research Institute.
