1. What is engineering education

The concept of engineering education is outcome oriented education, also known as ability oriented education, goal oriented education, or demand-oriented education. Its specific connotations include: student-centered: the teaching process considers what students learn, how to help students learn, and how students learn; Guided by reverse design: Determine the training objectives from external needs, determine the graduation requirements based on the training objectives, and determine the curriculum system based on the graduation requirements; Driven by continuous improvement: dynamically evaluate and improve training objectives, graduation requirements, curriculum system, and curriculum outline.

2. What is engineering education certification

  Engineering education certification refers to the process of engineering discipline certification organized and carried out under the leadership of the China Engineering Education Professional Certification Association (hereinafter referred to as the Certification Association). The Certification Association is a national, non-profit membership based social organization voluntarily formed by relevant groups and individuals who are enthusiastic about Chinese engineering education.

  The goal of carrying out engineering education certification is to establish a quality monitoring system for engineering education in China, promote the reform of engineering education in China, and further improve the quality of engineering education; Establish an engineering education certification system that is linked to the engineer system, promote the connection between engineering education and the business community, and enhance the adaptability of engineering education talent cultivation to industrial development; Promote international mutual recognition of Chinese engineering education and enhance international competitiveness.

  The basic process of engineering education certification includes six stages: application and acceptance, school self-evaluation and submission of self-evaluation reports, review of self-evaluation reports, on-site inspection, deliberation and making certification conclusions, and maintenance of certification status.

3.Why do we need to obtain engineering education certification

  On June 2, 2016, China became an official member of the Washington Accord, an international   agreement for mutual recognition of undergraduate engineering degrees. This agreement is mainly aimed at the mutual recognition of undergraduate engineering qualifications (generally four years) internationally. It is recommended that individuals who graduate from courses certified by any contracting member should be regarded as having obtained academic qualifications to engage in junior engineering work by other contracting countries (regions). Through engineering education certification, they can achieve:

  ① Establishing a quality monitoring system for higher engineering education in China; Improve the teaching quality of engineering majors;

  ② Establish a professional certification system for engineering education that is aligned with the registered engineer system;

  ③ Attracting extensive participation from the industrial sector, further strengthening the connection between engineering education and industry and society, and improving the adaptability of engineering education talent cultivation to the industrial industry;

  ④ Promote the participation of China's engineering education in international exchanges and achieve international mutual recognition.
