The CS Subject subject Area atof SCUT enters into top 1% in ESI
As the latest statistics from the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) updated on September 23 showed, the Computer Science Subject of SCUT entered into the world’s top one percent for the first time. Following after other six subjects including Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Physics as well as Biology & Biochemistry, this is the seventh subject of our university to receive the top one percent ranking from the ESI Subject Areas. This indicates that the Computer Science is another international high-level subject of our university.
In recent years, China is promoting its construction of first-class universities and disciplines of the world. At the same time, Guangdong province is speeding up the construction of high-level universities. Both our country and the Guangdong province are vigorously promoting the innovation and industrialization of emerging frontier areas such as Intelligent System, Mobile Internet, Cloud Computing and Big Data. Following these trends and focusing on their needs, SCUT has put vast strength into building a subject group of information sciences, taking Computer Science and Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, Control Science and Engineering as the backbones of the group. Related departments, such as the School of Computer Science and Engineering, the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, as well as the School of Automation Science and Engineering, are encouraged to bring and train high-caliber personnel to carry out high-level scientific research. In return, the university has become a highland of various talents and obtains remarkable achievements. It was able to assemble an extraordinary faculty consisting of receivers of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Yangtze River Scholars, and members of the Thousand Talent Plan and so on. Moreover, it has produced substantial fruits in scientific research. A series of highly recognized papers on Computer Science, Communication and Control Science were published on IEEE Transactions journals. All these efforts have contributed to the increasing strength and high international reputation of the Computer Science Subject of SCUT, and lead to the improvement of its ESI ranking.
According to the latest statistics from ESI, the other six subjects have been keeping moving up in the ESI Subject Areas, which indicates their increasing influence and reputation. All these achievements have laid a solid foundation for the construction of first-class, world-renowned research university.
