The Fourteenth International Conference on Web based learning is successfully held by the School of Computer Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology (SCUT), from 5-8 November 2015. The conference is jointly organized by the Hong Kong web society, South China University of Technology, Sun Yat-Sen University and CCF YOCSEF Guangzhou chapter, which attracted nearly 80 scholars from the universities and the industrial communities of different countries, such as United States, Germany, Russia, France, Spain, Sweden, Italy, Estonia, Switzerland, Singapore, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Australia, and so on.
International and domestic scholars were invited to give the keynote speeches in the conference and the presentations in six sections among the conference. The scholars for the keynote speeches include Prof. Baltasar Fernandez-Manjon from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Prof. IP, Ho Shing Horace from City University of Hong Kong and Prof. Zhiwen Yu from South China University of Technology. Invited guests include Prof. Yunhao Liu from Tsinghua University, Prof. Jun Zhang from Sun Yat-Sen University, Prof. Qing Li from City University of Hong Kong, and so on.
The theme of the conference is “Advances in web based learning technique”. All the keynote speakers give the wonderful talks. Prof. Baltasar Fernandez-Manjon gives a presentation with the title “Serious Games: current uses and emerging trends”. Prof. IP, Ho Shing Horace presents a talk with the title “Pedagogical Design Issues for Virtual Reality based Learning Environment”, and shows how to use virtual reality technology to help mentally retarded children to learn. Prof. Zhiwen Yu gives a keynote speech with the title “Ensemble learning and its applications in web-based learning”, and introduces how to apply the machine learning algorithms to web-based learning.
The objective of the conference organized by School of Computer Science and Engineering in SCUT aims at providing a platform for the communication of teachers and students in the web based learning. At the same time, scholars around the world gathered in South China University technique to share their interests and opinions, which is useful to improve the effect of academic exchange in SCUT.
