On May 10thand 11th, 2014, the 12th ACM/GDCPC, the “UC Cup” ACM/ICPC Asia regional/Guangdong Provincial contest was held in the south campus of South China University of Technology. XinyiPeng, the deputy vice-chancellor of SCUT, attended the closing ceremony on the afternoon of May 11th and presented awards to the winning universities and teams.
The contest has attracted 163 teams, which consists of 489 students from 35 universities at 6 different province, such as Sichuan, Hunan, Zhejiang and so on. And this time is the largest scale in its history. The contest finally decided the university team award, fastest solving award, 15 first prizes, 29 second prizes, and 44 third prizes. 24 teams was selected by our university and they have won 4 first prizes, 13 second prizes and 4 third prizes. And among these prizes, 3 first prizes, 11 second prizes and 4 third prizes was won by the School of Computer Science and Technology of SCUT. The champion of university team award was won by Sun Yat-Sen University, the second place was won by South China University of Technology and the third place was won by South China Agricultural University.
It is known that the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest(ACM/ICPC), which is considered to be the "Olympics of Computer Programming", is hosted by Association for Computer Machinery, a famous association of computer science. This contestcompletely adopted the rules and format of ACM/ICPC with the purpose of improving students’ programming interest and skills. At the meantime, it helps universities select and train excellent students for the ACM/ICPC Asia regional contest.
