The Key Laboratory of Heat Transfer Enhancement and Energy Conservation of Ministry of Education was approved on Aug 17th, 2000. The laboratory was built on the basis of the Open Research Laboratory of Heat Transfer and Energy conservation which was approved by Ministry of Education in January, 1994. At present, it is jointly-constructed by South China University of Technology and Beijing University of Technology. In the past decades, the laboratory has had very high reputation in the heat transfer and energy conservation fields such as “Petroleum Refining, Petrochemical, Solar Energy, Heat Pump, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning”. It got the first “973” project in energy conservation area of China. In recent years,the laboratory also had great features and advantages in “Renewable Energy, Natural Gas Utilization, New Energy Materials, Microelectronic Heat Dissipation and Car Battery Heat Management”.
The laboratory has gathered distinguishing experts of energy conservation and heat transfer enhancement. There are 61 core staff (faculty) working in this laboratory, including 5 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 winners of the Recruitment Program of Global Experts, 2 winners of the Yangtze River Scholars,  10 winners of National Talents of the New Century and 36 Professors. In the past five years, the laboratory has undertaken 44 national major / key projects, 7 important international cooperative projects, winning 4 National Awards, 8 Provincial and Ministerial Awards. 238 patents have been authorized.
