Chemical Biology is an advanced interdisciplinary subject founded in the late of 1990's. It employs chemical theory and research methodology to study and manipulate biological systems. SCUT set Chemical Biology as the undergraduate major in 2003. The goal of the undergraduate major is to equip students with the appropriate experimental and theoretical approaches to use or develop chemical tools for understanding biological processes, and its approach is the integration of principles and experimental techniques drawn from both chemistry and biology. The students will have strong backgrounds in chemistry and biology so that they can work in the fields of chemistry, biology, pharmacy, and their intersect - disciplinary area.
