Research Areas:
•Fundamental principals for the highly efficient application of biomass resources: (1) the relationship between the microstructure of lignin and its reactivity, (2) the solution behaviors of the lignin based surfactant, (3) the adsorption and dispersion mechanism of lignin base surfactant in the suspension system.
•Preparation and application of green chemicals: Development of high performance fine chemicals by using lignin, including concrete superplasticizer, multifunction water treatment agent, high-effective additive of coal water slurry and the dispersants with high performances for mortar, pesticide and ceramics.
•Novel chemical separation technology: a theory and process of “repelling extraction” were proposed, and further a composite extractant was developed for highly efficient separation in the ester/alcohol/water, ester/ketone, ketone/water systems.

2. Preparation and application of lignosulfoante based additive for pesticide, sponsored by the Eleventh Five Years Program of Support Project for Science and Technology
3. Sulfonation of alkali lignin and its utilization as a bioresource, sponsored by National High Technology Research and Development Program
4. Resourceful disposals of biomass wastes, sponsored by the crucial field and key breakthrough project in Guangdong and Hongkong
5. Theory and technology of lignin based functional polymer surfactant. sponsored by Guangdong provincial Natural science group program.
