目:Polymer-Brush-Decorated Hybrid Particles: Synthesis and Applications

This presentation will introduce the surface-initiated radical polymerization (ATRP and RAFT) for the graft of well-defined polymer chains on particles with various shapes including spheres, rods, and plates. The applications of polymer brush grafted hybrid particles for the formation of colloidal crystals or liquid crystals will be illustrated, followed by the introduction of their reversible self-assembly into the ordered array under the external fields. Finally, I will present some biomedical applications of polymer-brush-decorated hybrid particles, especially the key factors to affect their circulation times, accumulation in tumor tissues as well as their in vivo pharmacokinetics.

报告摘要:

Living radical polymerisation, a technique which has excellent control over molecular weight and distribution of polymers has been well utilised in material and engineering fields for decades.   Surface-initiated living radical polymerisation as a specific technique for the surface modification on various inorganic material has brought a new era for surface and colloid chemistry, nanotechnology and biomedicine. The same advantages as living radical polymerisation, surface-initiated living radical polymerisation, especially surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerisation is pioneering surface and colloid chemistry field with generating novel hybrid nanoparticles with high dispersibility and designed functions. This talk, I will be introducing the techniques about how to manipulate our technology for developing semi-soft colloidal crystals, generating new mineral liquid crystal and a transparent film using these hybrid particles decorated with polymer brushes. Furthermore, I will also highlight one of the applications of these hybrid particles for tribological research.

Kohji Ohno教授简介

Professor Kohji Ohno received his PhD from Kyoto University in 1999 under the supervision of Professor Takeshi Fukuda, followed by a postdoctoral study with Professor David M. Haddleton at the University of Warwick in United Kingdom (1999-2001). He has been working in the Institute for Chemical Research of Kyoto University as an assistant professor (2001-2009) and an associate professor (2010-present). His current research interests include living radical polymerizations, polymer brushes, synthesis and self-assembly of fine particles, and biomedical applications of functional fine particles.

 

Huang Yun博士简介

Dr. Yun Huang is a Research Officer at the School of Chemical Engineering, University of Queensland. After obtaining his PhD degree in polymer chemistry from Kyoto University, Japan under Prof. Kohji Ohno and Prof. Yoshinobu Tsujii’s supervision, he seized the postdoctoral position at Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, the University of Queensland.  He is internationally distinguished for his pioneering research on the construction and study of living radical polymerisation, photoreactive polymeric materials, surface modification of nanoparticles, and his research interests span the fields of organic chemistry, photolithography, surface and colloid chemistry, rheology, and tribology.
