His work has been recognised by a number of awards, including the International Society of Heterocyclic Chemistry Katritzky Award (1999), the Royal Society of Chemistry’s (RSC) Tilden Lectureship (2004) and Heterocyclic Chemistry Award (2005).In 2005/6 he undertook sabbatical study leave based at the Instituto de Investigaciones Químicas (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas) in Seville, Spain.He served as Head of the School of Chemistry from 2006-2012 and since 2013 has been Dean of the Faculty of Science.
