From July 26th to 29th, 2009, the 4th World Congress on Bioengineering 2009 was held in Hong Kong Polytechnic University. LIU Li, the graduate student of our School, completed an innovative research with her tutor WU Jianhua and gave an excellent speech on “Flexibility, A Possible Dominant Factor on the Activity of Antimicrobial Peptides” at the Congress. She stood out in many qualified candidates from Europe, America, Japan, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Chinese mainland, and received the Young Scientist Awards of Biomedical Engineering Society which was for 5 winners.

The World Association for Chinese Biomedical Engineers (WACBE) organizes biannual World Congresses. The first congress was held at Taipei in December 2002; the second was held at Beijing in September 2004; and the third was held at Bangkok in July 2007. Young Scientist Awards are set up to young excellent investigators (below 35years old) from all related areas in Biomedical Engineering. The theme of the 4th Congress covered many special symposiums, such as Biomaterial, Tissue Engineering, Signal Processing, Biomechanics, Biosensors, Bio-nanotechnology, Medical Devices, Biomolecular Engineering and so on.
