On December 8, academic lecture of AU organized by the School of Automation Science and Engineering was held on the sixth floor conference room of Building 3.The topic of this lecture was Satellite Attitude Control Designs in Presence of Reaction Wheel Faults/Failures. Professor Danwei Wang from Nanyang Technological University was invited to this issue as the major guest. The lecture was chaired by Prof. Pei Hailong.
Before the lecture, Prof. Pei Hailong gave a brief introduction to Prof. Danwei Wang. In the lecture, Prof. Danwei Wang firstly introduced the background and some characteristics of satellite attitude control systems. Then, he presented that reaction wheels are the key actuators in the attitude control systems and explained the most common problems of loss of efficiency and bias of reaction wheel faults. Based on the above problems, two classes of fault tolerant control frameworks are developed. One framework is passive fault tolerant control and another is active fault tolerant control. What’s more, comparative studies and case examples are analyzed in details to show the difference, characteristics, and complementary natures. In the end of the lecture, Prof. Wang had a discussion with students.
Through this lecture, students learn more about the application of control theory which has an important role in solving practical problems. It's a truly inspiring lecture.
