Objectives
Through related doctoral degree courses and the doctoral dissertation, this program aims to cultivate those who have obtained a Master degree to become high-level personnel in the field of architectural design and theory who have deep love for the socialist motherland and have a command of Marxist world outlook and methodology with proficiency of foreign languages and computer skills and solid and broad theoretical foundation and systemic specialized knowledge in the research field. Students are expected to have strong abilities to conduct scientific researches independently with well-development in moral, intellectual and physical aspects.

Cultivation Mode
Advisory system is applied in this doctoral program. Doctoral students should draw up a working program with the instruction of their supervisors in the first two months after registration. Students are supposed to participate in the medium term assessment according to Doctor Degree Candidate Medium-Term Assessment Method of South China University of Technology and complete the required social practices before the end of the third semester.
Dissertation
Doctoral students should prepare thesis proposals in the third semester (the exact date will be arranged by different disciplines). Before applying for the thesis defense, students are required to publish academic papers according to Document #61, 2008 made by School of Graduates of South China University of Technology. Students are required to draw up a thesis working plan and prepare thesis proposals between the 8th and 15th weeks in the third semester; and to publish officially at least three academic papers related to the thesis topics on source journals of China Science and Technology Journals or core journals, among which one paper has to be published in the first level institute journals. Thesis defense will be arranged according to Rules for the Implementation of Graduation Degrees of South China University of Technology and Regulations of the Applications for Thesis Defense of South China University of Technology on the completion of theses.
