The research direction of the South China Institute of Soft Matter Science and Technology focuses on the basic scientific problems of soft matter in chemistry and chemical engineering. It is constantly moving towards advanced materials of information and energy, green chemistry and sustainable engineering, advanced functional materials and high performance related to health and medicine. Hybrid materials and other directions expand.

The Research Institute adheres to the development strategy of upholding the top position. On the one hand, it focuses on the basic scientific problems of soft matter, and supports the research of advanced topics such as hybrid functional materials, biology and life, new energy, nano-materials, and green and sustainable chemical engineering. On the other hand, it carries out the industrial preparation of related soft materials. Technology development and subsequent engineering enlargement and development, with the ultimate application of soft materials as a foothold, cross each other, constitute a complete new system from education, scientific research to industrialization. It is hoped that after five to ten years of efforts, the Institute will gain the leading position in related fields.
