From March 4th to 10th, 2019, Dr. Daniel Toolan from Aston University of United Kingdom was invited by South China Advanced Institute for Soft Matter Science and Technology (AISMST) to give a short course titled Chemistry for Chemical Engineers for 5 days.

The course was be divided into five parts, Dr. Toolan first introduced the linking the molecular structure to reactivity and stability, and described the important mechanism of organic reactions and analyzed relative influence factor, and then, he explained the importance of colligative properties for solution systems and the catalysis based on equilibrium kinetics. Finally, combined with his recent research, Dr Toolan introduced the forecasting method of thermodynamically stable phase structures from phase diagrams under different conditions (temperature and pressure). Dr. Toolan's lectures is short in time but rich in content, and students actively communicated withDr. Toolan about the course content.

Dr. Toolan is a research associate at the university of Sheffield. Dr. Toolan’s research focuses on synthesis and application of functional composite polymers. He has made remarkable achievements in the field of situ studies of phase separation in spin-coated organic photovoltaics, kinetic switches of enzyme controlled soft hydrogel microparticles and rational design of manufacturing processes for next generation optoelectronically active nanocomposite films.
