关于举行美国Akron大学 “3+2” 联合培养项目宣讲会的通知

  由华南理工国际校区前沿软物质学院牵头,与美国 Akron大学“3+2” 联合培养留学项目自去年开展以来,已有5名学生顺利赴美深造! 

  今年,该项目即将再次启动,现面向华南理工在读学子举行宣讲会,欢迎广大本科生报名参加。

  宣讲内容:Akron大学AMP(Akron Masters Program)计划,包括高分子科学与高分子工程学院的AMP计划,申请要求、学费、职业路径等。

  华南理工大学-美国Akron大学 “3+2” 联合培养留学项目

  美国阿克伦(Akron)大学的高分子学科在全球排名处于领先地位。根据我校与美国阿克伦大学的本科生合作交流协议,美国阿克伦大学接受我校大学三年级的学生在本科第四年到该校高分子科学与高分子工程学院学习两年,两校互认学分。完成华南理工大学培养方案课程并通过毕业论文答辩者将颁发华南理工大学的毕业证书和学士学位,满足阿克伦大学研究生培养方案的学生将获得阿克伦大学的硕士学位。交流学生可继续在国外攻读博士学位或工作。以前的毕业生七成多在阿克伦大学或被录取到其它美国高校攻读博士。

  Ohio(俄亥俄州)伊利湖地区是以化工机械电子而闻名的工业区。Akron被称为橡胶基地、高分子工业区,所有的轮胎公司在这里都有研发中心。阿克伦大学工学院有自己的的实习就业中心,在全美有2000个合作伙伴。毕业六个月的在工程领域的就业率是93%以上。因为是工程专业,毕业后在Akron很容易申请到三年期的专业实习(OPT),然后在三年内向公司申请,办理工作签H1。在UA的优势: 1. 阿克伦大学课程设置受工业界影响,与工业界的联系很紧密,业界高管多是阿克伦大学工学院的顾问,学生申请OPT和H1有更多机会;2. 3+2项目的学生因为有严格的科研训练而受到美国各大高校欢迎,该项目为学生打开了进入美国优秀博士班的方便途径。

  我校前沿软物质学院、材料科学与工程学院、化学与化工学院以及其他材料和化学相关专业的学生均可提出申请。

四、主讲人介绍

 

Chunming Liu obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry at Texas A&M University and B.S. in chemistry at Nanjing University. After postdoctoral work at Cornell University, he joined the School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering and the Department of Chemistry in 2019. His research is focused on studying polymer chemistry and polymer physics by single-molecule methods.  

 




 

Weinan Xu is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2015, and did postdoctoral research (2016-2019) at Johns Hopkins University. His current research is focused on the development of advanced hybrid materials and new 3D fabrication technologies, with applications in smart structures, soft electronics and sensors, and energy storage. He was recognized with several awards, including Polymer Processing Society Early Career Award, IUPAC Young Observer award, Excellence in Graduate Polymer Research Award from the American Chemical Society, Best Ph.D. Thesis Award from Sigma Xi and Georgia Tech.  



 

Toshi Miyoshi obtained his Ph.D in Chemistry (1997) at Kyoto University, Japan. After postdoctoral work at Institute of Polymer Research Dresden, Germany, he joinedNational Institute of Advanced Technology and Industrial Science (AIST), Japan in 2000. He joined department of polymer science at The University of Akron in 2010. He is currently full professor and AMP assistant director in School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering. His research interests include developments of solid-state NMR techniques and their application to semi-crystalline and glassy polymers, carbon materials, self-assembly, and biomaterials.

  School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering

  For more than 100 years students and faculty from around the world have been coming to The University of Akron to focus on polymer research and education. Formally established in 1988, The School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering’s tradition as a leader in polymer science and polymer engineering began as early as 1910 when rubber chemistry was taught at the University. Establishing the Ph.D. program in Polymer Chemistry in 1964, the Department of Polymer Science in 1967, and the Department of Polymer Engineering in 1984, the School continues to focus on polymer innovations and applications of research in science, technology, engineering and medicine today.
